Duo Album Launch "Hidden Bomba" by Chris Cundy and Benedict Taylor

Launching soon on Linear Obsessional Chris Cundy and I are thrilled to have the release of our duo Hidden Bomba.

Everything about this album has been a real pleasure - making it in the beautiful chapel in Cheltenham. Having the superb Chris Trent come all the way to record us, and then mix and master the music. Now handing it over to the great Richard Sanderson of Linear Obsessional to take it forward as a published work. Many thanks to all those involved.

Hard copies are coming as early as this weekend and keep your eyes on the website for the online launch: http://www.linearobsessional.org

Oysters Film Premiere - East London Film Festival

It was great to see Oysters screen at the East London Film Festival on the 17th June 2017.

I had a great time composing the music for this film, and it was great to hear such positive responses at the festival from the audience at Rich Mix!

Keep you eyes open for other screenings...

BLOODY HELL - THE VIOLA & THE HUMAN VOICE ARE THE SAME AFTER ALL!!!

Everyone was right...the viola and the human voice are THE SAME. I wish I'd paid more attention to all non violists and non vocalists who told me that over the last 20 years....

Composer residency with Chicago Modern Orchestra Project

A fantastic week was had in the USA during the first part of my composer residency with Chicago Modern Orchestra Project.

I was kept extremely busy with concerts in Chicago and the surrounding area, lots of new composing, meetings with artists of the city, workshops in Montessori schools, art installations, recordings & experimental film screenings. Additionally there was a little time to taste the local food and beer (AKA "essentials"), and have a look around the iconic architecture of the downtown area. ACE.

Huge thanks to Renee Baker & CMOP for this wonderful opportunity. Looking forward to more exciting plans.....

Caged Guerrillas - album & score launched

Caged Guerrillas is a studio album for viola & distorted viola. It is based on my composed score of the same name by which is the 2nd work in the series 'Guerrillas'.

The album is released as a series of limited edition discs. Each album printing has a different selection of the recordings of the score. No run of discs is ever the same.

The performance is based on many cut up elements of the score used as 'flashcards'. Some are long, some are short. There are 35 in total. A disc run will have varying amounts of the works selected at random.

The works are both natural and distorted, imposing limitations and thus caging the music production of the artist by means of both sonic treatment and the utilising of a composed score. But, the score is interpretive and the distorting of sound a choice, so the artist is both caged and uncaged by these all these processes. Contradictions are fun. Get the online album here:
